…you are the music. While the music lasts.
from The Dry Salvages, by T. S. Eliot
Dear friends:
This the third season of Music in the Somerset Hills, an organization dedicated to providing an unparalleled variety of opportunities for people to hear, perform and learn about the world’s great music right here in the Somerset Hills.
Since its inception only two years ago, Music in the Somerset Hills has grown into a flourishing community of artists, educators and music enthusiasts right in our own back yard. Under our auspices, we have created the Somerset Hills Community Chorus and Somerset Hills Community Concert Band. We have established an annual series of summer vocal, instrumental and music technology day camps for young people. We launched a series of nine Community Concerts for audiences of all ages at beautiful venues throughout the Somerset Hills, including the first Baroque opera (Handel’s Semele) performed on authentic historic instruments to be staged in our area.
This year, we are offering a brand new series of educational workshops during the school year for both students and adults, as well as a performance/lecture series for the classical music buff. The series combines an informative and fascinating pre-concert lecture, round-trip transportation, and orchestra tickets to masterwork performances by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, all in one convenient package.
It is my great hope that you will consider making a tax-deductible gift to support the work of Music in the Somerset Hills in the 2012-2013 season. Our community and the people who live here are at the heart of our endeavors. There are seldom opportunities for families to enjoy word-class concerts, nearby, at an affordable cost. The many talented amateur musicians who live in our area have few opportunities to perform, continue their musical education and meet like-minded individuals. Music in the Somerset Hills directly addresses these challenges, but we can’t continue to do it without your help. Even a modest donation makes a huge difference, and is a direct investment in the quality of life and culture in our community.
Warmest regards,
Stephen Sands
Artistic Director
